Somatic Cell Count (SCC)

Picture

Somatic cell count (SCC) is an easily accessible high-level indicator of overall management. Mastitis, an inflammatory response of the mammary gland typically caused by bacteria, has a negative effect on animal welfare, milk quality, and production, and can be assessed by cow-level SCC testing and health records.

How to assess:

The average somatic cell count for the previous 12 months must be less than 300,000 cell/mL
